UFC Fight Night 126: Cerrone vs. Medeiros prediction, fight card, start time in Austin

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will uncork a barnburner, knuckle draggin, fightin-with-all-we-got headliner at this weekend’s UFC Fight Night 126 mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza on FOX Sports 1, going down Sun. night (Feb. 18, 2018) inside Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

That’s according to welterweight slugger Donald Cerrone.

“When they said Yancy Medeiros I was like, ‘Hell yeah.’ Hawaiian dude wants to throw down? Perfect,” Cerrone said. “He’s one of the last dying breeds of fighter, the guys that just throw down. It’s one of those barnburner, knuckle draggin, fightin-with-all-we-got fights. This is gonna be a Cowboy Cerrone highlight reel.”

Consider this opportunity a true test for Medeiros to find out whether he's the kind of dangerous action fighter who can become a regular television headliner for UFC. The Hawaiian also couldn't ask for better timing with so many questions surrounding Cerrone.

But just as Cowboy has often been a victim of his own willingness to fight on short notice and as active as his promoter will let him, Medeiros steps into the biggest fight of his career just two months removed from three hellacious rounds against Oliveira.

Prediction

Consider this opportunity a true test for Medeiros to find out whether he's the kind of dangerous action fighter who can become a regular television headliner for UFC. The Hawaiian also couldn't ask for better timing with so many questions surrounding Cerrone.

Make no mistake, a loss here would be incredibly damaging for Cerrone and, despite his flippant comments, it's something that can't be lost on him. While Medeiros is dangerous, he's simply not the same class of fighter as both Cerrone and those who have defeated Cowboy over the past year.
Medeiros' best win came against Oliveira, who Cerrone submitted in less than one round in 2016. Unless the loss to Till was a harbinger that his chin is gone, Cerrone still has enough skill and pride to rely on his technique and outclass Medeiros after navigating some rough seas in the early going.

Cerrone (32-10, 1 NC) was expected to return to the lightweight division — and reduce his fight frequency — after dropping three straight fights in which he was finished twice. “Cowboy” was last seen getting turned inside out by Darren Till at UFC Gdansk.

Medeiros (15-4, 1 NC), meanwhile, captured three in a row — all finishes — to maintain his place in the official UFC rankings (see them here). “The Kid” is fresh off a third-round stoppage over Alex Oliveira at UFC 218.

Any chance this scrap lasts all five rounds?
