Gary Oldman is up for a best actor gong, and experts fancy his chances given he's already won a Golden Globe, a Critics' Choice Award and a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

Timothee Chalamet i also in the running for Call Me By Your Name, along with Daniel Day-Lewis for Phantom Thread, Daniel Kaluuya for Get Out and Denzel Washington for Roman J Israel, Esq.

James Franco - who is facing allegations of sexual misconduct - was tipped to be nominated for The Disaster Artist, but was missing from the list.

Actresses to get nods include Margot Robbie for I, Tonya - in which she plays figure skater Tonya Harding and follows her connection to the 1994 attack on her rival Nancy Kerrigan.

Sally Hawkins also earned a nod for The Shape Of Water, Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird and Oscar darling Meryl Streep for The Post, her film about The Washington Post's controversial decision to report on the Pentagon Papers in 1971.

The film was a big winner at the SAG awards, picking up best ensemble, best actress for McDormand and best supporting actor for Sam Rockwell.

It also scored a best picture nomination, where it is up against Call Me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, The Shape Of Water, Dunkirk, Phantom Thread, The Post, drama horror film Get Out and director Greta Gerwig's comedy drama Lady Bird.

However, it is fellow nominee Frances McDormand who is considered to be the frontrunner for her powerful performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The ceremony will be held on March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Centre in Los Angeles. It usually takes place at the end of February, but the date has been moved to avoid a clash with the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.

The ceremony doesn't kick off until 1am UK time, so fans might need to pull an all-nighter if they're planning to watch it in real time.
